Vierte Welt
The Vierte Welt in Kreuzberg is a production platform organized by artists, a performative thought space, an interface between discourse & art and a venue. Central to the team is the development of collaborative practices and the exchange with other artists/formations. Formats like performances, political plenums or philosophy are connected by a new culture of negotiation in order to facilitate an open exchange.
The space - a cored doctor's practice - is theatrically unconventional. Here there is no stage, no foyer, no theatre. Only a 130 square meter room with two side wings and an open window front, which makes a central perspective impossible due to four wide columns in its centre. The originally suspended ceiling was opened, the substructure preserved, the ceiling panels removed, making the technical reality of the room visible: an aesthetic setting and the basis for a pragmatic, multifaceted use. The walls serve as projection, drawing and writing surfaces through whiteboard panelling. Depending on the seating and scenic situation, the room offers a maximum of 70 seats (chair/stool/bench) or 60 seats at tables. A handy fundus, an artist's cloakroom, a technical store in the disused elevator shaft and sanitary facilities are hidden in the adjoining rooms.
We ask wheelchair users to register their visit with an email one day before the event: karten@viertewelt.de
