The Theater unterm Dach (Theatre in the Attic) in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district is a production house and venue for independently produced theatre projects. The programme comprises world premieres, German premieres as well as adaptations of classics. The repertory features productions from artists from the independent scene made as a result of co-productions with the theatre.
The year's programme is assembled from theatre pieces by already established directors as well as emerging artists. The venue's work supporting young directors is renowned and greatly appreciated by theatre professionals and the general public alike, reflected in productions frequently winning awards and being invited to festivals. The motto of this theatre is professionality and openness to all themes.
The Theater unterm Dach is the municipal venue of the city district of Berlin Pankow and can seat up to 80 people in its flexible capacity. The company is located in the "Kulturhaus im Ernst-Thälmann-Park" (Cultural Centre in Ernst Thälmann Park) which is a cultural centre that was established in 1986 on the site of the former 4th Municipal Gasworks, in the extensively renovated and reconfigured gasworks workshops. Next to the Theater unterm Dach are other cultural organisations such as the Galerie Parterre Berlin, the Jugendtheateretage (Youth Theatre Conference), Junge Kunstwerkstätten (Youth Art Workshops), the event space WABE as well as the district office for culture and education.
