For over 20 years the Theater Morgenstern (Morning Star Theatre) has produced work for primary school children in the Schlesiensaal of Friedenau Town Hall in the Berlin district of Schöneberg. The repertoire covers reworkings of old sagas and fairy tales, the classics of world literature and work by contemporary authors.
The productions are marked by a playing style that activates and strengthens fantasy. Speech is not the only means to tell a story on this stage but rather a means of spatial, aural and rhythmical expression. The actors themselves are just as versatile and imaginative, transforming themselves into many different characters, inspiring the young audience to produce their own ideas and images. Live music is a consistent part of the productions, bringing rhythm, structure, atmosphere to the proceedings - usually performed by a solo cellist who takes on the role of an entire orchestra.
The team around the founder Senn Koch also initiates and produces projects and theatre excursions in Berlin and the surrounding area and cooperates with museums.
