English Theatre Berlin | International Performing Arts Center
International Performing Arts Center
The English Theatre Berlin is the only theatre in Berlin to exclusively present and produce English-speaking plays and performances, showing in-house productions (Made in Berlin) as well as hosting national and international guests. The theatre is also a venue for concerts, comedy shows and dance performances from the lively English-speaking theatre and music scene in Berlin.
The ETB / IPAC was founded by Bernd Hoffmeister as the first entirely English-speaking theatre in Berlin and first known as "Freunde der Italienischen Oper" until being renamed the English Theatre Berlin in 2005 and relaunched at the end of 2012 as the International Performing Arts Centre. The English Theatre Berlin / International Performing Arts Centre team develops diverse, discursive artistic and theatrical forms bringing artists and audiences into conversation about their shared city and the wider world.
In the annual curated festival “The Expat Expo”: A Showcase of Wahlberliner, the English-speaking artistic community shows its latest artistic work. The interdisciplinary collaborative project “Science & Theatre” brings together the academic training of young scholars and the staging of science plays and science communication in theatre. The LAB series is a forum for young English-speaking theatre in Berlin and an international laboratory for new English dramatic writing. The ETB / IPAC shares the venue with the Thikwa theatre in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. The main stage has 150 seats.
