DAS WEITE THEATER
The Weite Theatre located in Berlin's Lichtenberg district has been the home of professional puppetry and acting for over 30 years. Its outstanding reputation extends far beyond the theatrical landscape of Berlin. Productions for children are shown almost daily in the approximately 100-seat theatre and every weekend there are shows for the whole family. For young people and adults there are also selected evening performances and new performances are brought to the stage of the venue on the Parkaue every season.
The goal of the Weite Theatre is to bring acting, puppetry and music together on stage, letting them assume equal status as 'performers'. In this way, productions achieve artistic means far beyond the conventional and never shy away from bold experimentation.
The theatre is at home with puppetry but does not necessarily remain there. As its name reflects, the spectrum is broad - the primary question is how a story can be transported. The programme is enriched by touring productions from independent groups and theatre from the Berlin cultural scene as well as its partner theatre Theater des Lachens (Theatre of Laughter) from Frankfurt/Oder. The Weite Theatre ensemble also shows its pieces on numerous stages throughout Germany and is often invited to international festivals abroad.
