Great Orangery of Charlottenburg Palace
The long, single storey baroque Great Orangery attached to the west side of the historical palace was built between 1709 and 1712 for King Friedrich II of Prussia by Johan Friedrich Eosanders. The grandeur owes much to the central rotunda with its wide hexagonal arrangement of supporting columns opening on both sides to the original elegant white painted wings. Originally for the preservation of the royal citrus fruit collection over the winter months, the light-flooded Great Orangery, in the last remaining city palace in Berlin, now serves as a prestigious location for corporate product launches, gala dinners, trade fairs and all types of event.
The Berliner Residenz Orchestra of renowned professional musicians was formed in 2006 especially for the concerts in Charlottenburg Palace. In April 2016 the orchestra celebrates its 10 year anniversary under the leadership of Vladi Corda. The concerts by the Berliner Residenz Orchestra are presented in a unique way in the Great Orangery of Charlottenburg Palace. The musical compositions from the 17th and 18th centuries are performed in the costumes of the time, transporting you on a musical journey through the masterpieces of the classical and baroque periods in one of the most historical settings in Berlin.
The unique concert experience can also be enjoyed with other cultural activities such as a gourmet dinner, a tour through Charlottenburg Palace, a river trip on the Spree or a visit to an exhibition. Alongside the in-house events, guest appearances by other notable artists also take place in the Great Orangery.
