As part of the Schubert Week, the Pierre Boulez Saal once again welcomes a group of young singers who are about to embark on an international career. Leading up to their recitals, these rising artists have been working on their programs with Thomas Hampson over the course of several masterclasses.
Mezzo-soprano Susan Zarrabi and bass-baritone Jussi Juola perform the last of three concerts—both were first heard at the Pierre Boulez Saal as part of the inaugural Schubert Weekend in 2018. Zarrabi joined the opera studio of Berlin’s Komische Oper this season, while Juola is a member of the ensemble at Volkstheater Rostock. Gerold Huber is their piano partner.
January is Schubert month at the Pierre Boulez Saal: for the third consecutive year, Thomas Hampson has invited renowned lied singers and the most promising talents of the younger generation, together with their piano partners, to dedicate an entire week to the world of the Schubert lied—even in these challenging times.
This concert, followed by an interactive Q&A session, will be streamed live on Thursday, January 21, from 8 pm and will be available on our website for free on-demand viewing for 30 days.
