Solaris
based on the novel by Stanisław Lem
Translated by Irmtraud Zimmermann-Göllheim
Adaption by András Dömötör and Meike Schmitz
Since its discovery more than a hundred years ago, entire generations of researchers have tried to uncover the secrets of the planet Solaris. But despite countless scientific experiments and a series of bold expeditions, the goal of making contact with the intelligent ocean planet has remained out of reach.
The young psychologist Kris Kelvin has also dedicated his life to studying Solaris. Now he makes his way to the space station to assist the scientists who are based there. But what awaits him is far from what he expected: the research station is in complete chaos; one of the scientists has committed suicide, the other two have apparently gone mad. At first, Kelvin takes no notice of their references to secret guests. But then, suddenly, he finds himself face to face with his former lover Harey, who killed herself many years ago.
Stanisław Lem’s novel, published in 1961, is regarded as a masterpiece of science fiction. András Dömötör is bringing it to the stage as an absurd and comic journey between reality and fiction, focusing on the question of the limitations of human knowledge.
