reinkommen
The four-week research by dance artists Achraf Lansari and Hannah Juliane Steenbeck is entitled “connecting gaps, gapping connections”. They examine the spaces in between — the gaps and connections that shape movement and interaction. How do we define and manipulate the distance between our bodies? How can gaps be tools for communication and connection? A core element of the research is “stalking” an improvisational score within house dance that facilitates connection between dancers, shared spatial awareness, and musical embodiment. Achraf and Hannah Juliane explore non-traditional variations of stalking, such as uneven counts, altered movement amplitudes, and physical touch. In parallel, they deconstruct fundamental house dance steps to their core elements and reconstruct them in innovative ways, expanding our movement vocabulary.
This research highlights the tension between individuality and collectivity in dance, mirroring broader societal questions of inclusion, fragmentation, and connection. In house dance, cyphers serve as spaces of exchange, where movement bridges differences and focuses a shared rhythm. By dissecting and reshaping the mechanics of connection and separation, the artists not expand their movement vocabulary but also explore how dance can reflect and challenge the ways we relate to each other in daily life.
reinkommen (“coming in”) is ada Studio's latest performance series. It gives young choreographers the opportunity to open their work process, invite the audience to come in and to get into conversation.
