DEBUSSY, RAVEL, BOULEZ
Pierre Boulez once compared his Structures for two pianos to “an experiment in what one might call Cartesian doubt.” Radically breaking with tradition, these pieces were meant “to bring everything into question, make a clean sweep of one’s heritage and start all over again from scratch.” Michael Wendeberg and Nicolas Hodges perform both parts of this seminal work, which were written over a period of ten years and offer fascinating insights into Boulez’s development as a composer. Music by Debussy and Ravel completes the program.
