‘You don’t recognise yourself because you are no longer yourself. Your daughter has left cells in your body. You are now partly made of her, you are now mother and child.’
Marlis is caught gambling in the bathroom, where she has hidden from the children. Liv keeps dreaming that her daughter is dying. Both mothers end up with the unconventional psychologist Dr Wu, who, for therapeutic purposes, introduces them to the Mama Mega franchise, a game series that has something to offer every mother: In the various sequels, the title heroine Mama Mega is sometimes a multiple mum, sometimes a single mum, sometimes in a suburban idyll or on the road with zombies. Marlis and Liv can learn a few tricks and strategies for everyday life. Superheroine Mama Mega has everything under control, even if she mercilessly breaks taboos and parenting rules to do so.
A dance-music-theatre evening about motherhood, postpartum depression, mental load and gaming.
After Barton’s three adaptations of classics (Sistas! at the Volksbühne, Cypressenburg at the Burgtheater Vienna and Datscha at the Sophiensaele), MamaNoSing’s theatre piece Mama Mega is dedicated to postpartum depression, maternal overload and gaming.
