MADONNA
Which image of women is propagated why and why is it subjected to it? The performance investigates this and makes use of a rich canon of body images, role patterns and accounts of experiences from the history of art, dance and pop.
Madonna, the virgin with a thousand faces and a gaze always transfigured: The traditional Madonna figure is perhaps the most common theme in Western art history. As a strong and beautiful young woman, she has been a figure of identification for many women for centuries. The cult figure of the Mother of God always appears powerful, but changeable and above all shows how the role of women in strongly male religions still raises questions and rejections today: Which image of women is propagated why and why is it subjected to it? The performance investigates this and makes use of a rich canon of body images, role patterns and accounts of experiences from the history of art, dance and pop.
The musical basis is formed by parts of Monteverdi's baroque "Marienvesper" - sampled with songs of the Madonna, whose music performances and videos have perfected self-portrayal.
Madonna - Saint or whore? And: What actually happened to her bottom?
