Kyiv Symphony with Sibelius’s “Finlandia”
Kyiv Symphony with Sibelius’s “Finlandia”
The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra presents two powerful works shaped by war and oppression. Jean Sibelius composed his heroic tone poem Finlandia as a protest against Tsarist consorship. His student Leevi Madetoja processed the horrors of the Finnish Civil War in his dramatic Second Symphony. Between these pieces, the programme features the melancholic violin concerto by Ukrainian composer Reinhold Glière, performed by Aleksey Semenenko, Professor of Violin at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. On the podium: Jascha von der Goltz, winner of the 2021 International Panula Conducting Competition.
