If your grandfather is a recognized composer and your father a musical genius, it might be better for your self-confidence and success to find another field of activity despite your own talent. Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart did not take such advice to heart - according to records, however, it bothered him much that his works did not seem to interest anyone. In addition to his piano concerto with the young soloist Aaron Pilsan, which is well worth hearing and already points towards the Romantic period, the “New Lambach” Symphony by his grandfather Leopold will be played, which in turn was long regarded as a work by Wolfgang Amadeus. There is no question that his music is incomparable and unique: "I also heard music with wind instruments today, by Mr. Mozart, in four movements - magnificent and noble! It consisted of thirteen instruments and each instrument was played by a master - oh, the effect was magnificent and great, splendid and noble!" So enthused a contemporary in 1784 about his “Gran Partita”, a seven-movement work for large wind ensemble and sometimes virtuosic, sometimes wonderfully vocal, a joy for audiences and performers alike to this day! In this concert, conducted by Reinhard Goebel, it is played at the end in an arrangement for orchestra.
