KIRILL GERSTEIN
DEBUSSY, LISZT
Robert Schumann once described Liszt’s Études d’exécution transcendante as “Etudes to be performed by, at most, ten or twelve players in the world”—and the same could be said of Debussy’s piano etudes. Both cycles seem to reach beyond the limits of what is technically possible for the performer as well as the instrument.
For his Pierre Boulez Saal debut, pianist Kirill Gerstein takes on the challenge of performing both works in one evening. Due to the current regulations, he will present the two-hour program in two sections, with Debussy at 6pm followed by Liszt at 9pm. Each section may also be booked individually. For those who would like to experience the entire program, an additional dinner option is also available.
