KIAN SOLTANI & BENJAMIN GROSVENOR
Works by Schubert, Franck, Ali-Zadeh, and Wallen
Cellist Kian Soltani likes to explore different sides of his instrument, and his latest program offers no fewer than four opportunities to do so: Joined by pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, he performs two famous sonatas by César Franck and Franz Schubert that were originally written for other instruments. These two works frame Franghiz Ali-Zadeh’s Habil-Sayagi, which was inspired by the improvisations of renowned Azerbaijani kamancheh virtuoso Habil Aliyev, and an instrumental sufi dance by British composer Errollyn Wallen, recently named Master of the King’s Music by King Charles III.
