Shibak sharqi means "window to the east" in Arabic. It's a window that catches the sunrise, bringing in the new day's light, a window offering a glimpse into another world.

Founded in 2016 by Christine Schmidt and the Syrian dancer Mohammed Al Halabi, shibak sharqi has dedicated itself to this view to the East and has since produced numerous dance productions and teaching formats between Orient and Occident for and with dance artists in exile. These works and projects aim to encourage individuals to engage with one another, learn from each other, and grow together.

How do we make it happen? How can we live together under the pressure of global challenges? How can we build a society in which everyone feels included, where differences are embraced as enriching, and where we collectively shape a promising future?

It needs the will to work together, it needs an understanding that something good can only come from coming together. Already on a small scale it takes a human practice that is communicated and effective by itself and made impactful through art. The artists involved in the LANDSCAPES 4.0 programme share this belief. Their actions are guided by a broader vision oriented towards the future, with the intention of actively contributing to its development.
