“HEROES”
Alexander Scheer sings David Bowie
When David Bowie went on tour, he always travelled with his mobile library. It contained almost 1,500 books. Literature was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the pop star. Along with classics like Dante Alighieri’s "Inferno", many novels by writers such as Christa Wolf or Alfred Döblin play a central role in Bowie’s musical oeuvre.Alexander Scheer, who has filled theatre stages and cinema screens with great roles so many times, goes on a journey with his band to trace Bowie’s literary and musical footsteps. The Berliner Ensemble is the perfect venue for this Bowie homage, because: not only did David Bowie live in Schöneberg in Berlin between 1976 and 1978 – he was also a theatregoer and often visited the BE. “Heroes” is a reading and a concert, a tribute to the city of Berlin, which has been shaped by so much upheaval, its resonance in world literature and the great songs that David Bowie gave to the whole world.
