Fabio Biondi and his ensemble Europa Galante return to the Pierre Boulez Saal in an intimate quartet formation. In their program, the musicians pair Mozart’s “Milanese Quartets,” written during his stay in the northern Italian city in the early 1770s, with string quartets by Carlo Monza—a composer hardly remembered today but an eminent musical authority at the time with whom Mozart certainly crossed paths while in Milan.
This concert, originally announced for November 2020, will now take place as part of the Quartet Week. We regret that the Kronos Quartet had to cancel its appearance, scheduled for this evening, due to current travel restrictions. A new date will be announced later.
