Schau mit beiden Augen, schau
(Jules Verne, Michel Strogoff)
The pavilion is now home to the critic Max Malini and the 2800 VHS cassettes he owns. The long days are punctuated only by the occasional visitor from his small circle of acquaintances: The starlet he once met at the Venice Festival, with whom he likes to discuss astrology. A childhood friend and skipper, who instructs him in the philosophy of knot tying. A cleaning woman from better days when he still worked as a literary editor for one of the leading newspapers. And an old flame, who drops by to persuade him into parting with his treasures just like she had once parted from him. What remains are recorded memories, images, scenes of a (once) formidable collection of cultural moments. Now that they’ve turned into a menacing fire load, they keep creeping into his dreams at night. Sifting through his video tapes, he realizes that they are actually holding his life together like the bonds of love, obsessions of an amateur. The nights wear on when no one is around to offer a critique of the goings-on at the glass pavilion. So do step in, come inside when the comet rises! Let the review begin.
With Max Malini, Franz Beil, Ann Goebel and more.
