SCHUMANN, WIDMANN, TCHAIKOVSKY
“Like an echo of the words you once wrote me to the effect that ‘you considered me at times almost like a child’”—this is how Robert Schumann described his Kinderszenen (“Scenes from Childhood”) to his fiancée Clara Wieck in 1838. Denis Kozhukhin combines the cycle of 13 miniatures with Tchaikovsky’s Children’s Album, a “collection of simple pieces for children inspired by Schumann.” Jörg Widmann’s mysterious Zirkustänze (“Circus Dances”) and Ravel’s grotesque La Valse complete the program.
