BETWEEN SPACES – BETWEEN FACES
BETWEEN SPACES – BETWEEN FACES
Two overwhelmed individuals meet face to face in the space between spaces. In the in-between, they break with their expectations.
Two dancers awaken in a gym filled with benches. They begin to explore new spaces—each on their own and together, strangers and yet close, face to face. Their search for meaning in the everyday madness between loneliness and togetherness keeps driving them forward, but their questions are only met with more questions. Eventually, they leave behind what they once were, shedding their layers and casting them off, forgetting their big and small expectations and those of others. They no longer play by rules that aren’t their own. In the end, they break open their old world and build a path from its fragments toward an elsewhere. A playful yet thoughtful performance for young and old, suitable for audiences aged four and up.

For the development of the piece, the LUNA PARK initiative collaborated with choreographer Nikoleta Koutitsa, who was trained at the State School of Dance in Athens and at DANCE START UP in Bologna. She has worked with the Hellenic Dance Company in New York and with Emanuel Gat at the Venice Biennale in 2016. In 2017, she co-founded the KN Dance Group with Karolina Theleriti, whose first choreographic works and dance films have been presented at festivals in Greece and abroad. Since 2019, Nikoleta Koutitsa has been based in Berlin, where she not only pursues her own artistic work as a dancer and choreographer but also regularly contributes to the productions and educational projects of the Berlin-based artist collective LUNA PARK.
The LUNA PARK initiative, founded in 2003 as an open collective of freelance artists from various disciplines and institutionalized as a nonprofit association since 2019 at the Gesundbrunnen Primary School - located in a socially highly challenging neighborhood - regularly realizes artistic productions in the field of contemporary dance and related extracurricular artistic education projects for children, adolescents, and young adults in Berlin, across Germany, and in international exchange. Through artist-in-residence programs and its support for emerging talent, LUNA PARK regularly offers young dance artists the opportunity to develop and present their own choreographies.
Studio 14 is located almost at ground level. There is no raised area in the studio itself. There is a slight incline of 1.0% from the outside to the entrance of the studio.
Following the performance BETWEEN SPACES – BETWEEN FACES on Thursday, July 3, 2025, we, in collaboration with Theaterscoutings Berlin, invite young people to participate in an approximately one-hour workshop that combines dance and theater pedagogical elements. Building on the themes of the piece—intimacy and foreignness, loneliness and encounter, breaking expectations and rules—the participants will have the opportunity to explore their own physical and creative forms of expression.
Together, we will explore in movement and improvisation exercises:
• How do I move in space—alone and in relation to others?
• What happens when I let go of expectations?
• How can I tell stories with my body without words?
The goal is to deepen the experience from the performance through personal movement, reflection, and play, while creating space for individual engagement with the themes of the piece—on an equal footing and with openness for personal experiences.
No prior knowledge is required—curiosity is enough!
