We hear Tabea Zimmermann in two different roles during this concert: as violist and director. Together with Noah Bendix-Balgley, First Concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker, she leads the Karajan Academy as soloist in Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante. This cheerful work captivates listeners with its virtuosic dialogue between the viola and violin. With the scholars of the Academy she also presents Johannes Brahms’s Serenade No. 2, inspired by Viennese Classicism, and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Two Pieces for String Octet.
