As in his feature films (The Death of Louis XIV, Pacifiction), he masterfully creates a vortex of atmospheric tension that has made him the singular figure in international arthouse cinema he is. Afternoons of Solitude was awarded the Golden Shell for Best Film at the 2024 San Sebastian Film Festival.

The film captures a day in the life of the famous bullfighter Andrés Roca Rey—from the moment he gets dressed to the moment he undresses again. Albert Serra unveils the dazzling pomp and devastating violence of an ancient ritual that is both fascinating and disturbing.
