With its fifth edition from May 19 to 24, 2020, the Performing Arts Festival Berlin celebrates its first anniversary . Over the course of five days, the festival will present artistic works from the fields of drama, dance, performance, music theatre, figure and object theatre, illustrating the diversity of the liberal performing arts at stages and unusual locations throughout the city. This year's programme will be based on current social issues and will create an exciting artistic prism of aesthetics and perspectives - inviting you to discover Berlin as a theatre location.
For the fifth edition, the team of the Performing Arts Festival Berlin introduces for the first time thematic focuses that address current social issues and prevailing discourses. Six programme series bring together artistic works of very different genres, open a dialogue with the audience and contrast different aesthetic styles and perspectives on the respective thematic focus. The titles of the program series are inspired by well-known music songs and deal with topics such as the threat to the world and the living space ("It's the End of the World as We know it"), the reflection of life realities ("Don't let me be misunderstood"), the rethinking of urban life and society ("We built this City on Rock'n'Roll"), loneliness as a social phenomenon ("Violently happy"), the positioning of people in the digital age ("Virtual Insanity") or the perceived emptiness in economic prosperity ("(Forget about the) Price Tag").
A seventh program series is dedicated to fresh talent in the performing arts and continues the successful format of the newcomer platform "Introducing...". Six promising, artistic voices will be heard and especially seen at the venues Sophiensæle, Ballhaus Ost, HAU Hebbel am Ufer and Theaterdiscounter. At the open discussion and showcase format "PAF Show & Tell", a selection of other Berlin artists will present their latest works, works in progress and projects to the audience and professional guests from Germany and abroad. On the evening of May 19, 2020, the 5th Performing Arts Festival Berlin will celebrate its officially opening.
