Hamlet as a failed hero of the young generation. Open air
The tragedy of a hopeful young man who has a task placed on his shoulders that weighs too heavily for him, which he fails at and ultimately perishes, symbolises a successor generation, its values and ideals and the decision to rebel against the abuse of power, manipulation and corruption in politics and restore justice. The production approaches the European classic with the formal means of traditional theatre. The archetypal characteristics and ambivalences of the characters are emphasised through concentrated physicality and symbolic costumes. A simple, poetic visual language allows us to concentrate on Shakespeare's study of man and his linguistic masterpiece.

"Worth seeing!...
A lot of things seem very clear in this production, but at the crucial points it is abstract enough to allow for different interpretations... Benjamin Krüger has a very dark charisma and is clearly the power centre of the production... Characteristic of the production is that effects are created with very simple means...
Conclusion: good pace, good staging, good, opaque leading actor, most of the other characters are also convincing, although the psychological plausibility suffers a little due to the speed of the play. But it has tension, it has energy, just right for open-air theatre."

... “Leonard's poetic, eloquent version of the text is as convincing as Mathias Schönsee's direction with its clear contours. The tragedy “Hamlet” is popular theater. You can join in the excitement, laugh and cry. Wonderful!”

“The evening has its comedic moments as well as its serious ones.”

... “In Mathias Schönsee's production, the scenes are clicked on and off percussively. From a distance, this is reminiscent of Asian theater traditions and Peter Brook.”
