Rock sounds, a sharp bite, shivers and beauty –DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES returns to Berlin
This love never ends: the story of Count von Krolock and Sarah
Back in 2007 Roman Polanski’s DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES enthused Berlin’s audience with its thrilling story. It was shown at the Stage Theater des Westens and brought to the historic theatre the most successful season. 14th of November the vampires will return to the capital, but only for a limited time, until summer 2012.
DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES transports its audiences to mysterious Transylvania. While looking for vampires, Professor Abronsius, a vampire researcher, and his assistant Alfred find lodgings in a Transylvanian mountain village. But it’s not only Alfred who finds Sarah, the beautiful daughter of the innkeeper Chagal, very attractive. Vampire Count von Krolock also takes a fancy to her and invites her to the midnight ball in his nearby castle. Abronsius and Alfred follow her to protect her from mortal danger and to finally prove the existence of vampires to the world. They have good reason for their suspicions and for their concern about Sarah. Not only the beautiful innkeeper’s daughter but they themselves are on the menu of the vampires’ annual midnight ball.
The story of the cult musical is based on the famous Polanski parody THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS, a movie published in 1976. Polanski also directed the musical and collaborated with Michael Kunze. Jim Steinman composed the distinctive sound for the show and made sure that the music causes shivers of excitement.
The show’s glorious journey through international theatres began in Vienna in 1997, and the bloodsuckers have graced not only Hamburg but, for instance, Stuttgart and Budapest with their gruesome yet entertaining presence ever since. And in the process seduced an audience of over 6,5 million people worldwide.
The euphoria continues…
